Duplex World Seminar & Summit
A resounding success!
On October 12 & 13 Duplex World was held in Dusseldorf, Germany where it once again attracted many of the world’s leading experts on the use and manufacture of duplex stainless steels. The highly technical conference presented knowledge at the leading edge of duplex development and application as well as a wealth of opportunities to network.
As the Seminar Chairman Mr Babak Bahar, Material Specialist from Kvaerner, Norway opened the event he looked out upon an auditorium packed with expectant faces. The crowd of end users, manufacturers, researchers and suppliers from every corner of the globe had high expectations. As expected, the many months of preparation for the event culminated in two days filled with highly technical yet very interesting presentations.
After Mr Bahar had discussed the development of duplex valves and piping in the offshore industry he was followed by speakers from Statoil Norway, The Iron & Steel Research Institute China, Ferdowsi University in Iran and Technip Umbilical UK. It was a varied and inspiring program which reflected the wide ranging applications of duplexes around the globe.
On the second day of the event Mr Bahar again welcomed a full auditorium eager to hear plenary speakers from Aker Solutions, Norway, Outokumpu Sweden, and Stamicarbon, the Netherlands. With plenty of questions and even some debate both the days got off to a great start!
Workshops and technical paper sessions filled the afternoons with learning and knowledge exchange. The key topics tackled were:
- Application limits for duplex at elevated temperatures in the process industries
- Welding challenges, innovations and technologies
- Manufacture of the duplex family
- Low temperature applications of duplex
- Recent development so fusing duplex in structure applications
- Corrosion & performance characterisation,
Carefully guided by the expert Moderators, the technical sessions provided not only insights into new developments but also discussions and sharing of practical experience.
