Energy-efficient urea plant in China
07 May 2018
Stamicarbon and Hubei Sanning Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd have signed a contract for the licensing of technology and the delivery of proprietary equipment for a grass root urea plant with a capacity of 2334 mtpd, to be built in Zhijiang, Hubei, China.
The plant will use Stamicarbon’s novel ultra-low energy design. Stamicarbon uses various types of Safurex duplex steel materials in its urea plant designs. For instance, Safurex Infinity, a super duplex steel, is used in the urea synthesis section; Safurex Star, another super duplex steel, is used in various demanding applications such as the HP stripper in CO2 and the thermal stripping process; and Safurex Degree is used for creating HP ejectors, liquid dividers and check valves.
The scope of the contract includes License, Process Design Package (PDP), and delivery of high pressure equipment and associated services for the urea plant. The scope of the high pressure equipment includes the new design of the Safurex® Pool Reactor which was adapted and perfected for the ultra-low energy design. The finishing will be prilling. Start-up of the plant is expected at the end of 2019.
